The match between Rayo Vallecano and Athletic Club was suspended after paper aeroplanes and small balls were thrown onto the pitch from the stands. The incident occurred in the 14th minute, just as the visiting team was preparing to take a corner.

Referee Sánchez Martínez stopped the game after hundreds of objects began raining down onto the pitch, forcing the players to halt proceedings.

Rayo Vallecano vs Athletic Club: Match Interrupted Several Times

Although the game resumed around ten minutes after the initial stoppage, objects were thrown onto the pitch again immediately after the corner was taken. The referee then ordered both teams back into the dressing rooms.

After around 20 minutes, the players returned to the pitch, but the match was interrupted again just seconds later for the same reason.

Following discussions with the team captains and coaching staff, Sánchez Martínez decided to suspend the match permanently.

Rayo Fans Protest Against Club President

During the incidents, Rayo Vallecano supporters also chanted in protest against club president Raúl Martín Presa, directing insults at him after he had already been loudly booed upon arriving in the directors' box before kick-off.

The referee's decision to suspend the match permanently was met with applause from some of the supporters inside Vallecas Stadium.
